Best Time to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Dry Season (Best)

January – March: Warm and relatively dry. Good visibility with fewer crowds. Slightly higher chance of brief afternoon showers at lower elevations.

June – October: The peak climbing season. Clear skies, cold nights, and the best summit views. July–September sees the highest number of climbers.

Rainy Season (Challenging)

April – May: Long rains. Heavy rainfall, muddy trails, and poor visibility. Most operators reduce departures. Not recommended for first-timers.

November – December: Short rains. Lighter and more intermittent. Still climbable — choose the Rongai route for the driest conditions. Fewer crowds and lower prices.
