About Bird Watching

Tanzania is one of the world's premier birding destinations, home to over 1,100 recorded species — from vast flamingo flocks painting Lake Manyara pink to the elusive Usambara eagle-owl and the spectacular lilac-breasted roller. Our bird watching safaris are led by specialist ornithologist guides who know every call, nest site, and seasonal migration pattern.

Key birding hotspots include Lake Manyara and Lake Natron for flamingos and waterbirds, the Serengeti for raptors and secretary birds, Tarangire for endemic species like the ashy starling and yellow-collared lovebird, the Usambara Mountains for Albertine Rift endemics, and the coastal forests of the Eastern Arc for globally threatened species.

Birding safaris can be standalone trips for dedicated twitchers — complete with checklists, spotting scopes, and field guides — or seamlessly integrated into wildlife safaris as an enrichment layer. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best sightings. We also arrange specialist trips during peak migration seasons (November–April) when Palearctic migrants swell Tanzania's bird count dramatically.
